Objective of the Game
The Mysterious Forest is a cooperative board game where players assist Jonas in navigating through the Mysterious Forest, overcome challenges posed by the evil Queen Draconia, and return home safely. The game is inspired by Daniel Lieske's "The Wormworld Saga" comic.
Components
- 1 Jonas figure
- 1 Dice tray
- 8 six-sided dice with two different symbols
- 54 equipment cards
- 10 jungle tiles
- 1 equipment board
- 4 backside reference cards
- 1 gate card
Setup
- Place the equipment board and gate card in the center of the table.
- Shuffle the jungle tiles and draw 4 randomly to form the path.
- The remaining equipment tiles form a facedown stack.
- Each player receives two equipment tiles.
- Place the Jonas figure on the starting tile.
Gameplay
The game is played in three phases: Exploration, Preparation, and Adventure.
1. Exploration
- Reveal the jungle tiles one by one.
- Players should remember the symbols and the sequence of tiles.
- Once all tiles have been revealed, they are turned face down again.
2. Preparation
- Players roll the 8 dice to obtain equipment symbols.
- The dice are placed on the dice tray.
- Players can draw cards corresponding to the rolled symbols.
- Players should distribute the cards so each has a good hand ready to help in overcoming obstacles.
3. Adventure
- Flip the first jungle tile and check the symbols depicted.
- Players must play one or more of their cards to overcome the challenges.
- If players have enough cards to cover the symbols, Jonas can advance.
- The game ends when Jonas passes the last tile and reaches the gate.
Winning and Losing
- Winning: Players win if Jonas advances past the last jungle tile and reaches the gate.
- Losing: Players lose if they run out of equipment cards to cover a jungle tile's symbols.
Strategic Tips
- Memorize the sequence of symbols to strategically distribute cards.
- Communication between players is crucial as it is a cooperative game.
- Be cautious about when to use certain equipment to progress most efficiently.
The game encourages memory skills, cooperation, and strategic thinking, making it ideal for families and players aged 6 and up.
