Objective of the Game
In Bohnanza: Das Duell, the goal is to collect the most bean coins by planting and harvesting beans. Two players compete to gather coins through stable trading and skillful planting.
Game Setup
- Each player receives a Bean Fields Sheet and a marker.
- Shuffle the bean cards and give each player five cards.
- The remaining cards become the draw pile.
- Place the discard pile next to it.
Gameplay
The game proceeds in rounds divided into the following phases:
- Plant bean cards: The active player must place the first card from their hand onto one of their two bean fields.
- Trade or gift:
- The active player draws two or three cards from the draw pile and places them face up.
- Cards can be traded or gifted.
- Trading is only allowed with the face-up cards, using hand cards or previously traded cards.
- The aim is to obtain matching beans for one's fields or to prevent the opponent from acquiring key cards.
- Forced planting:
- Untraded cards must be planted in the players’ fields.
- Harvesting:
- Once a field accumulates a certain number of identical cards, it can be harvested.
- The player then receives bean coins according to the bean card.
- Cards are flipped and added to the player's bean coin pile for scoring.
- Draw new hand cards:
- The active player draws new cards to refill their hand to five cards.
End of the Game
The game ends when the draw pile has been exhausted for the third time. A final round follows, allowing players to plant and harvest their remaining cards. The player with the most bean coins wins.
Strategic Hints
- Trade effectively: Try to mislead your opponent with offers or block them from acquiring valuable beans.
- Timing in harvesting: Don't give up your fields too early; often there are valuable moves before accepting a low coin count.
- Plan ahead: Keep an eye on the cards your opponent is collecting to thwart their strategy.
