The Game – Detailed Instructions

Objective of the Game

The Game is a cooperative card game where players work together to place all cards in sequential order on various piles. The objective is to play as many cards from your hand as possible and collectively challenge the game itself.

Components

• 102 cards: numbered from 2 to 99.

Setup

1. Shuffle the cards well, and deal each player 6 to 8 cards depending on the number of players (e.g., 6 cards for 5 players).
2. The remaining cards form the draw pile.
3. In the center, place 4 stacks:
4. Two ascending: starting with card 1
5. Two descending: starting with card 100

Gameplay

• The player left of the dealer starts.
• On your turn, you must play at least two cards from your hand onto one or more of the piles.
• Cards on the ascending stacks must be placed in ascending order. Cards on the descending stacks must be placed in descending order.
• The "backwards trick": You can play a card exactly 10 less than the top card on an ascending stack, or 10 more than the top card on a descending stack.

Example: - On an ascending stack with the top card 27, you can play a 17 to move backwards (backward trick).

• After your turn, draw as many cards as you've played, maintaining your hand size.
• Once the draw pile is exhausted, you must still play at least two cards on your turn, but no longer draw cards.
• The game proceeds clockwise.

End of the Game

• The game ends when a player cannot place the minimum two cards on their turn, and the draw pile is empty.
• The objective is to play as many cards as possible. You win if you manage to place all cards on the stacks.

Strategic Tips

• Be aware of the backwards trick and use it wisely to "open" the stacks in both directions.
• Communication is crucial: without revealing your exact cards, openly discuss strategies on when and how to tackle each pile.
• Keep a flexible hand size and plan combinations that allow for long moves in a single turn.
