Objective of the Game

Terrace is a strategic board game where the goal is to either move your king to the opponent's side of the board or to capture all of the opponent's pieces.

Game Setup

The game board consists of an 8 by 8 square divided into 21 terrain tiers. The squares are colored in two colors (light and dark) and the height varies across the board. Each player has a base row from which movements begin.

Each player has a king piece and several smaller pieces. The pieces have different sizes and shapes; however, it's essential to note their own height and that of the board squares.

Game Rules

  1. Number of Players: 2 players.
  2. Starting the Game: White always moves first.
  3. Movement: A player can move one of their pieces vertically, horizontally, or diagonally as long as the movement stays within adjacent squares.
  4. Capture: An opponent's piece is captured by jumping over it with your own piece in a straight line.
  5. Height Rules: A piece cannot move to a square where it would have to climb higher than it can. The height of a piece determines how many levels it can move up or down.
  6. Winning Condition: The player who first moves their king to the opponent's base or captures all opponent pieces wins the game.

Strategic Tips

  • Positioning: Consider which pieces are best for attacks or defense. The height of the squares affects the freedom of movement.
  • Center Control: Similar to chess, controlling the center of the board offers tactical advantages.
  • Prioritize the King: Protect your king as it is both a target for the opponent and crucial for victory.

Terrace requires both tactical thinking and strategic planning. The board's variable heights add an additional layer of complexity to the gameplay.
