Objective of the Game
The objective of Vingt et un, also known as "Twenty-One", is to accumulate cards with a sum as close to 21 as possible, without exceeding it.
Setup
- Number of Players: 2 to multiple players
- Game Materials: 1 standard deck of cards (52 cards) without Jokers
Card Values
- Aces: Count as either 1 or 11
- Face Cards (King, Queen, Jack): Count as 10 points each
- Number Cards: Count as their face value
Gameplay
-
Choosing the Dealer: One person is chosen as the dealer, who shuffles the deck and deals two cards to each player, including themselves. The players' cards are dealt face up, while the dealer gets one card face up and one card face down.
-
Player's Turn: Starting with the player to the dealer's left, each player takes turns making decisions:
- "Hit": Take another card to improve the total.
- "Stand": Choose not to take any more cards.
A player's turn ends if they choose to "Stand" or if their score exceeds 21 (going "bust"). If a player busts, they are automatically out of that round.
- Dealer's Turn: After all players have completed their turns, the dealer reveals their face-down card and draws until they have at least 17 points. If the dealer's total exceeds 21, all remaining players win unless they have also busted.
Winning
- If the dealer busts, all remaining players win.
- If the dealer stands, all players compare their score against the dealer's:
- Players with scores closer to 21 than the dealer win.
- Players with scores equal to the dealer result in a "Push" or tie.
- Players with lower scores than the dealer or higher than 21 lose.
Strategic Tips
- Proper Use of Aces: Utilize the flexibility of aces wisely to avoid going bust.
- Assess Probabilities: Try to judge which card you might draw next based on what has been played.
- Decide to Hit or Stand: It is generally advisable to stand on a hand with 12 to 16 points if the dealer shows a 7 or higher.
