Objective of the Game

The objective of Pecunia non olet is to be the player with the most money by the end of the game. This is achieved by managing public toilets and maximizing profits.

Game Materials

  • Game board featuring various toilet stalls.
  • Toilet cards to represent the condition of each stall.
  • Visitor cards outlining the number and requirements of toilet users.
  • Money and credit cards to track income and expenses.
  • Action cards for special events or actions.

Setup

  1. Each player receives a starting sum of money.
  2. The game board is placed in the center, and the toilet cards are shuffled and placed face down next to it.
  3. Each player is assigned 1-2 stalls to manage, depending on the number of players.
  4. Visitor and action cards are shuffled separately and prepared.

Gameplay

The game proceeds in rounds, and each round comprises the following phases:

  1. Start of Day
  2. Draw an action card and follow the instructions.

  3. Visitor Phase

  4. Draw a visitor card and place visitors in the stalls.
  5. The card indicates how many visitors come and their demands. Some visitors pay more, others require cleaner toilets.

  6. Management Phase

  7. Players may spend money to clean or upgrade toilets.
  8. Toilet cards show the hygiene status of the stall. If one is flushed, a new card must be drawn.

  9. Income Phase

  10. For each used stall, players receive income based on the visitor card.

  11. End of Day

  12. Toilets may degrade due to usage.
  13. All visitors leave the stalls.

Special Rules

  • Action Cards can have various effects, such as an inspector who checks cleanliness. If hygiene standards are not met, penalties apply.
  • Toilet Upgrades increase capacity or improve value.
  • If a player cannot afford to maintain their stall, they must take out a loan.

Strategic Tips

  • Economics: Efficient money management is crucial. It is better to invest in upgrades that provide long-term benefits.
  • Visitor Flexibility: Different visitors have different demands. Try to adapt your stalls to fulfill all requirements.

End of Game

The game ends after a predetermined number of rounds. The player with the most money wins.
