Objective of the Game
In Dice Town, players assume the roles of prospectors in the Wild West, aiming to gain wealth and influence. The objective of the game is to have the most victory points at the end, which are obtained through money, gold nuggets, property cards, and special scoring cards.
Game Components
- 1 game board with various areas
- 5 poker dice per player
- 1 dice cup per player
- Paper money
- Gold nuggets
- Property cards (fields, towns, special cards)
- Various markers for game progress
Setup
- Place the game board in the center of the table.
- Each player receives a set of 5 dice and a dice cup.
- Place the money and gold nuggets nearby.
- Shuffle the property cards and set them as a draw pile.
- Each player starts with a set amount of money (e.g., $8).
Game Play
The game is played in rounds, each consisting of several phases:
1. Dice Phase
- All players roll their poker dice simultaneously in their cups.
- Each player may secretly look at their dice and keep one, re-rolling the others.
- Continue rolling until each player has set aside 5 dice.
- For each roll after the first, the player must pay $1 into a central pot (the bank).
2. Reveal
- All players reveal their dice simultaneously and compare dice combinations.
3. Distributing Rewards
- Goldmine: The player with the most nines on their dice receives one gold nugget per nine.
- Bank: The player with the most tens robs the bank (takes all the money).
- General Store: The player with the most jacks draws a property card.
- Saloon: The player with the most queens influences Doc Badluck and can benefit from his advantages.
- Sheriff: The player with the most kings becomes the sheriff and receives a badge, which decides ties.
- Town Center: The player with the best poker hand receives a piece of land.
If there is a tie in any of these categories, the sheriff decides the outcome.
End of the Game
The game ends when either all the gold nuggets or all the property cards have been distributed. Then the final scoring occurs: - Gold nuggets: Each nugget is worth 1 point. - Money: Every $1 is worth 1 point. - Property cards and special scoring cards have varying values, often based on majorities or set combinations.
Tips and Strategies
- Resource Management: Keep enough money to be able to re-roll multiple times when necessary.
- Optimize Poker Hands: Always aim for the best poker combination to secure property cards.
- Sheriff Role: Strive to become the sheriff, as it often decides ties.
