Objective

In "Die kleinen Zauberlehrlinge", players take on the role of young magicians who aim to be the first to collect the four ingredients needed for a magical potion. The game cleverly combines elements of board play and memory challenges, making it especially interactive and exciting.

Components

  • A game board with a designated path.
  • Magnets underneath the board affecting specific spaces.
  • Magic wands for each player.
  • Potion ingredients that players need to collect.
  • Player pawns

Setup

  • Place the game board in the center of the table.
  • Each player chooses a pawn and places it on the starting space.
  • Shuffle and randomly distribute the potion ingredients face-down on their positions on the board.
  • Each player receives a magic wand.

Gameplay

  1. Turns: Starting with the youngest player, players take turns consisting of two phases: moving the pawn and potentially revealing an ingredient.

  2. Movement: Roll the die and move your pawn according to the number rolled along the designated paths.

  3. Magnetic Fields: Along the path, there are hidden magnetic fields. If a pawn lands on such a field, it might affect the turn—for example, revealing an ingredient, granting an extra turn, or skipping a turn. Remembering where these fields are crucial as they can positively or negatively impact your potion collecting.

  4. Revealing Ingredients: Once a player lands on a specific ingredient space, they may attempt to win it by revealing the ingredient. If they reveal the correct item needed, they can keep it. If it's the wrong item, it's placed back face down, and the next player continues.

  5. Winning: The game ends when a player collects all the needed ingredients. That player is declared the winner and the best magic apprentice!

Strategic Tips

  • Memory: Remember the locations of specific ingredients and magnetic fields. This helps in planning your moves better.
  • Risk vs. Reward: Sometimes it pays off to risk a space to learn more about the positions.
  • Observation: Pay attention to other players' moves. If they reveal ingredients they don’t need, you can remember what's underneath.

This game is not only a fun way to test your memory but also encourages strategic thinking and forward-planning!
