Objective of the Game

The objective of the game Vinci is to gain as many points as possible by conquering territories and optimizing the strengths of various civilizations. Throughout the game, each player will control multiple civilizations, attempting to expand them as much as possible before they may decline and be replaced by new civilizations.

Game Components

  • A game board representing Europe, divided into various regions.
  • Civilization tiles with special abilities.
  • Player markers for their civilizations.
  • Score markers.

Game Setup

  1. Set up the game board and place the players' score markers on "0" of the victory point track.
  2. Shuffle the civilization tiles and lay out six openly.
  3. Each player selects a starting civilization from the open tiles and places their markers according to the instructions on the tile.

Gameplay

The game proceeds in multiple rounds, divided into the following phases:

  1. Choosing a New Civilization: If a player feels their current civilization can no longer expand effectively, they may choose to adopt a new civilization.

  2. Conquest:

  3. Players use their civilization tiles to conquer adjacent territories.
  4. The number of tiles required for a conquest depends on the terrain and any defense tiles of opponents.
  5. Strategically placing tiles can make future conquests easier.

  8. Some special civilization abilities can yield additional points.

  9. Decline of a Civilization:

  10. A player may decide to put a civilization into decline.
  11. A civilization in decline remains on the board but the player can choose a new civilization to manage additionally.

End Goal

The game ends when a predefined score is reached or when no new civilizations are available. The player with the most points wins the game.

Strategic Considerations

  • Choice of Civilization: Selecting the right civilization at the right time is crucial. Some civilizations are stronger in conquest, while others offer bonus points for specific terrain types.
  • Timing of Decline: Knowing when to let a civilization decline can make the difference between paving the way for a powerful new civilization or wasting a turn.
  • Securing Territories: Securing territories with strategically difficult neighbors can strengthen your civilization's defense.

Special Features

  • Each civilization has unique abilities allowing for diverse strategic approaches. Players should adapt their playstyle depending on the abilities they can employ.
