Objective

The objective of Beasty Bar is to successfully get your animals past the bouncers and into the exclusive nightclub called "Beasty Bar." Each player uses their animal cards, strategically deploying them and manipulating the queue outside the club to take full advantage of the powers each animal possesses.

Components

  • 52 Animal Cards (12 cards per player in four different colors)
  • 4 Summary Cards with animal abilities
  • 1 Bar Card indicating the entrance

Setup

  1. Shuffle and Deal: Each player receives a complete set of animal cards in one color. These cards are shuffled and placed as a face-down draw pile in front of each player.
  2. Summary Cards: Each player gets a summary card for quick reference of the animal abilities.
  3. Playing Area: The Bar Card is placed in the center of the table as the goal – the entrance to Beasty Bar. There will be a queue in front.

Gameplay

The game is played in rounds, in counterclockwise order. Each player draws a card at the start of their turn and chooses an animal card from their hand to play into the queue (maximum of 5 cards). Players are expected to know the animal abilities.

Key Terms

  • Queue: Animal cards are played here in order. A maximum of five animals can stand in queue.
  • Bar: The two animals closest to the Bar enter when abilities are executed at the end of a player's turn.
  • Thrown Out: The animal at the back of the queue is removed when the queue is full and a new animal is added.

Turn Actions

  1. Draw Card: The player draws up to five cards in their hand, if possible.
  2. Play Card: The player selects an animal card from their hand and plays it into the queue.
  3. Activate Abilities: As soon as the card enters the queue, its special ability is triggered, which can alter the order of the queue or even remove animals.
  4. Check Queue: Next, ensure five animals are in the queue. If so, the two animals closest to the Bar enter, and the last animal is thrown out.
  5. Next Player: The next player takes their turn.

Special Abilities

Each animal has a distinct ability that affects the queue dynamics, such as displacing another animal, changing the order, or reinforcing its own position.

End of Game

The game ends once all cards are played. Players count the animals that made it into the Beasty Bar. The player with the most animals in the bar wins the game.

Strategic tip: Plan ahead and monitor your opponents' plays. Use your cards wisely to maximize animal abilities while thwarting your competitors!
