Objective of the Game
The objective of Nackter Spatz (Naked Sparrow) is to be the first player to discard all of your cards. The game combines elements of luck and strategy.
Materials Needed
- A standard deck of cards with jokers (54 cards total)
Setup
- Shuffle the card deck thoroughly.
- Deal five cards to each player.
- Place the remaining deck face down in the center of the table to create a draw pile.
- Take one card from the draw pile and place it face up next to it as the discard pile.
Game Play
- The player to the left of the dealer starts, and the game proceeds clockwise.
- The active player has the following options:
- Play a card: Play a card from your hand that matches either the value or the suit of the top card of the discard pile. Jokers can be played as any card.
- Draw a card: If you can’t or choose not to play a card, you must draw a card from the draw pile. You may then play that card if it matches. If not, the next player takes their turn.
Special Rules
- Jokers: Any player who plays a joker gets to choose the next suit to be played.
- Reverse (with Jacks): When a player plays a Jack, the direction of play reverses, e.g., from clockwise to counterclockwise.
- Skip (with Aces): If an Ace is played, the next player must skip their turn.
Strategy Tips
- Try to maintain a variety of suits and values in your hand to respond flexibly to the game situation.
- Save jokers for critical situations, such as when you need to switch suits urgently.
End of the Game
The game ends when a player has successfully discarded all their cards. This player wins the round.
