Guillotine Game Instructions
Objective
Guillotine is a card game where players take on the role of headsmen, aiming to collect the most points by executing nobles during the French Revolution. Each noble has a specific point value.
Components
- 110 cards, consisting of:
- 50 Action Cards
- 60 Noble Cards
- 1 Guillotine standee, used to indicate the next in line
- 1 Rulebook
Setup
- Shuffle the noble cards and form a deck. Lay out the top 12 cards in a line — this is the "line".
- Place the Guillotine standee at the start of the line.
- Shuffle the action cards separately and deal 5 cards to each player.
- The player who last watched a French movie begins.
Gameplay
The game lasts for three days (rounds), each day ends when all 12 nobles in the line have been removed.
Each turn consists of three phases:
- Play an Action Card (optional):
- The active player may choose to play one of their hand cards. These cards affect the nobles or the position of the guillotine.
- After resolving the action, place the card on the action card discard pile.
-
Execute a Noble:
The noble at the guillotine stand (at the start of the line) is added to the player's executed nobles pile. Points on the card are counted at game end. -
Draw an Action Card:
The player draws the top card from the action card deck. -
The next player clockwise then begins their turn.
Endgame and Victory
The game ends after three days or when there are no more nobles in the line. Players count the points of nobles they have collected. - The player with the most points wins.
Strategic Tips
- Utilize Action Cards Wisely: Some cards can change the order of the nobles or grant bonus points. Plan to capture high-value nobles.
- Point Race or Sabotage: It might be beneficial to direct low-point nobles towards opponents, decreasing their total.
- Noble Manipulation: Certain actions allow you to reposition annoying nobles, making them less desirable for opponents.
Enjoy playing and see which noble aligns with your revolutionary ambitions!
