Objective of the Game

The Harry Potter Trading Card Game is a two-player game where each player takes on the role of a wizard student attempting to defeat their opponent by casting spells, summoning creatures, and playing other magical cards. The main purpose is to discard all of the opponent's lesson cards to win the game.

Game Components

  • A customized deck for each player (consisting of 40 to 60 cards).
  • Lesson cards that represent the resource energy.
  • Spell, Creature, Item, and Adventure cards.

Setup

  1. Each player needs their own deck, prepared in advance. A deck must contain at least 40 cards and may contain up to 60 cards.
  2. Players shuffle their decks and draw seven cards into their hand.
  3. Specific character or theme-specific cards can be chosen as a main character, which is in play from the start.

Basic Rules

  1. Game Start: The player who goes first does not draw a card at the beginning of their first turn. Otherwise, both players draw a card at the beginning of their turn.
  2. Main Phase: Each player can perform up to two actions during their turn. Available actions include:
  3. Play a Lesson: Play a lesson from your hand. Lessons are required to provide the energy for playing other types of cards.
  4. Cast Spell Cards: These require a certain number and type of lessons and execute their effect immediately.
  5. Summon Creatures: These remain in play and attack the opponent during the attack phase.
  6. Play Items: These stay in play and offer various benefits.
  7. Set Adventures: These present challenges to the opponent that must be solved to prevent negative effects.
  8. Attack Phase: Creatures in play attack automatically, dealing damage to the opponent based on their attack value, represented by discarding cards from the opponent's deck.
  9. End Phase: Players may keep up to seven cards in hand. Excess cards must be discarded.

Winning Conditions

The winner is the player who can cause the opponent to discard all their deck cards by having them unable to draw any more cards.

Strategic Tips

  • Deck Building: Ensure a balanced mix of lessons, spells, and creatures to respond flexibly to game situations.
  • Efficiency: Play lessons early to efficiently cast powerful cards later.
  • Creature Management: Pay attention to powerful creatures and try to counter opponent's creatures with spells.
  • Utilize Adventures: Correctly used adventures can significantly disrupt the opponent's gameplay.
