Objective of the Game
In Café International, the objective is to score the most points by strategically placing guests from different nationalities around the tables in the café. Each table accommodates guests from only four different nationalities, and players must think strategically about how best to utilize the available seating.
Setup
- Place the game board in the center. It depicts several tables and a bar.
- Each player receives a certain number of tiles (guests), which they keep secret. The number of tiles depends on the number of players.
- The remaining tiles are kept as a face-down draw pile.
Gameplay
- Starting Player: The youngest player begins the game.
- Turn Options: On a player's turn, they can:
- Place a tile at a table: Each table has four seats for guests. A guest tile can only be placed at a table with the matching nationality spot. Once a table is full, points are awarded to players who have placed guests there.
- Seat a guest at the bar: If a player cannot place a tile on a table, they may seat it at the bar, which costs points.
- Scoring: Once a table is filled, players score points based on the number of guests they have placed.
- Draw Tiles: At their turn's end, the player draws a new tile from the pile.
Special Rules
- A player can place a maximum of two tiles per turn.
- Each table can host up to two male and two female guests.
- Placing at the bar results in a points penalty.
End of the Game
The game ends when no more tiles can be drawn or when a player has placed all their tiles.
Winning
The player with the most points at the end of the game wins.
Strategic Tips
- Complete Tables: Try to complete tables where you have placed tiles to ensure you get the maximum points.
- Block: Place guests strategically to make it difficult for others to place their tiles.
- Avoid the Bar: Aim to place tiles at tables to avoid losing points at the bar.
