No Thanks!, No Merci! - Card Game

Family Game, Strategy, Luck-based Game

group 3 - 7 Deutsch

Objective of the Game

The objective of No Thanks! is to finish the game with the fewest points. Players must cleverly decide when to take cards or refuse them, based on their strategic planning.

Game Components

  • 33 cards numbered from 3 to 35.
  • 55 playing chips.

Setup

  1. Shuffle the cards and remove 9 of them from the game without looking.
  2. Place the remaining cards in the center.
  3. Each player receives 11 chips.

How to Play

The game is played in turns, moving clockwise. Each player chooses either to take the top card from the draw pile, or to refuse it by placing a chip on it. If a player takes the card, they also collect all chips on it. The card is then placed in their personal card collection.

  1. Take the Card or Place a Chip:
  2. The player can take the visible card.
  3. If they don't want the card, they place one of their own chips on it, and the next player takes their turn.

  4. The player who takes the card starts a new round by revealing the next card from the stack.

Special Features and Strategic Details

  • Collecting Sequences: When a player collects cards in consecutive order, only the lowest point card in the sequence counts. For example, if a player has cards 7, 8, 10, 11, 12, they only count 7 and 10. This strategy effectively reduces the overall point total.
  • Value of Chips: Each chip left at the end of the game is worth one negative point. Therefore, players need to use chips strategically, aiming to include them in their final score.

Ending the Game and Scoring

The game ends when all cards have been taken. Players add up the points of their cards, counting only the lowest point of each series. For each remaining chip, the player deducts one point from their total score.

The player with the fewest points wins.

Tips

  • The key to winning involves balancing between collecting point-reducing card series and retaining chips to deny high-value cards.
  • Anticipation and awareness of the removed cards are tactical elements that can aid in decision-making.
