Objective of the Game

In Hetzjagd (also known as Scotland Yard), the aim of the game is for one player, known as Mr. X, to evade capture, while all other players, acting as detectives, work together to catch Mr. X. Mr. X wins if they avoid capture until the end of the game, whereas the detectives win if they successfully catch Mr. X within a given number of rounds.

Components

  • A game board depicting a city map
  • Pawns for the detectives and one for Mr. X
  • Travel tickets (Taxi, Bus, Underground)
  • Log sheet for Mr. X's movements
  • Notepads or paper for the detectives

Setup

  1. Place the game board in the center of the table.
  2. Select one player to be Mr. X; the remaining players are the detectives.
  3. Mr. X takes the hidden location sheet to note down travel moves secretly.
  4. The detectives place their pawns at their starting locations on the board.

Gameplay

Rounds Progression

The game is played over several rounds, each consisting of two phases:

  1. Mr. X's Movement:
  2. Mr. X moves first, recording their movement secretly on the log sheet.
  3. They may travel by Taxi, Bus, or Underground using a travel ticket and marking this on the sheet.

  4. Detectives' Movement:

  5. The detectives take turns moving towards Mr. X's last known position.
  6. Each detective utilizes the same transport methods using their travel tickets.

Clues and Reveals

  • At specific intervals, Mr. X must reveal their current location.
  • Detectives should use this information to predict Mr. X’s next moves and attempt to surround them.

Strategies

  • For Mr. X: Use secret moves wisely to lead the detectives astray. Exploiting the combination of public transport can help you cover large distances quickly, but be cautious when revealing your location.
  • For the Detectives: Coordinate your movements by sharing information among detectives. Spread out strategically across the board to cover different sectors and bottlenecks to trap Mr. X.

End of the Game

The game ends when: - Mr. X is caught by a detective (detectives win). - Mr. X evades capture through all rounds (Mr. X wins).
