Objective of the Game
Hick Hack in Gackelwack is a humorous and strategic card game where players aim to send their animals to various feeding troughs to collect the most food. The objective is to have the most food tokens at the end of the game.
Components
- 30 animal cards in six different colors
- 24 food tokens with different numbers of grains
- 6 feeding troughs, one in each color
- 1 rulebook
Setup
- Each player receives 6 animal cards at the beginning.
- The feeding troughs are placed in the center of the table. A food token is randomly placed on each trough.
- The remaining food tokens form a face-down draw pile.
Gameplay
The game consists of several rounds played as follows:
1. Choose Animal Cards
- Each player secretly selects an animal card from their hand and places it face down in front of them.
2. Reveal Animals
- All players simultaneously reveal their chosen animal cards.
- Each animal card represents an animal aiming at a specific colored feeding trough.
3. Distribute Food
- Check which and how many animals are gathered at each feeding trough.
- Chickens simply eat the food from the trough. Players who played chickens take the food tokens.
- If there are foxes, they scare away the chickens and steal the food. A fox defeats all chickens at a trough.
- If more than one fox appears at a trough, the foxes fight each other and leave empty-handed, while the chickens may enjoy the leftover food if any survive.
4. Cleanup
- Played animal cards are placed on a common discard pile.
- Refresh each trough with a new food token.
- Should the draw pile be empty, reshuffle the discard pile to form a new draw pile.
5. End of Round
- The game ends when a player runs out of animal cards.
- Count the collected food tokens. The player with the most food tokens wins the game.
Strategic Tips
- Bluffing: Sometimes it's strategic to play a non-obvious animal card to deceive other players.
- Weigh Risks: Consider carefully when to use a fox to avoid going home empty-handed.
- Card Counting: Keep track of the animals other players have already played to make better decisions.
