Objective
In Catan – Travel-Box, players take on the role of settlers trying to build and expand settlements, roads, and cities on the island of Catan. The aim is to be the first to reach 10 victory points by establishing settlements and cities, building the longest road, and achieving other specified goals.
Components
- Hexagonal Terrain Tiles: Represent different landscapes such as forests, fields, and hills.
- Resource Cards: Wood, clay, wheat, sheep, and ore used for building.
- Development Cards: Cards with special effects, granting players advantages.
- Settlements, Roads, and Cities in each player’s chosen color.
- Robber: A figurine that moves around the island, blocking resources.
Setup
- Players place the terrain tiles randomly to form the island on the board. The desert hex goes in the center.
- A numbered token is placed on each terrain tile except the desert.
- Each player selects a color and takes the corresponding settlements, cities, and roads.
- Players then alternate placing two settlements and two roads on the board.
Gameplay
A turn consists of three phases: 1. Resource Production: The active player rolls the dice. Each terrain tile with the rolled number produces resources for adjacent settlements/cities unless blocked by the robber. 2. Trade and Build: - Players can trade with each other or with the bank to get necessary resources. - Players can then use resources to build: - Roads (wood + clay) - Settlements (wood + clay + sheep + wheat) - Cities (2 wheat + 3 ore) - Development Cards (sheep + wheat + ore) 3. Robber Move: When a player rolls a 7 or plays certain cards, the robber is moved to block resource production and steal resources.
Special Rules and Strategies
- Resource Scarcity: Aim to place settlements on high-frequency numbers.
- Trading Diplomacy: Use trades strategically to improve your standing.
- Development Cards: Can be game-changing with knights, discoveries, and building large projects.
- Longest Road and Largest Army: Give additional victory points.
End of the Game
The game ends when a player reaches 10 points during their turn. That player is the winner of Catan – Travel-Box.
