Objective of the Game

"Gemsch," also known as "Ramsch," is a special variant of the popular card game Schafkopf. The goal in this game mode is to collect as few points as possible. Unlike in regular Schafkopf, where the objective is to win tricks to accumulate points, this game mode is more about defensive playing.

Setup

Gemsch is played with four players and requires a 32-card Schafkopf deck: Aces, Kings, Queens, Jacks, 10s, 9s, 8s, and 7s in all four suits: Clubs, Spades, Hearts, and Diamonds.

Gameplay

  1. Dealing Cards: At the beginning, each player receives eight cards.

  2. No Bidding: In Gemsch, the usual bidding process is skipped, as all players automatically play against the dealer with the objective of collecting as few points as possible.

  3. Turns: The player to the right of the dealer starts by playing a card. The other players must then follow by playing a card of the same suit, if they have one. If a player doesn't have a card of the played suit, they can play any card.

  4. Winning Tricks: The player who plays the highest card of the leading suit wins the trick and leads the next turn.

  5. Counting Points: After all cards are played and the tricks are gathered, players count the points in their won tricks. The values are as follows:

  6. Ace: 11 points
  7. Ten: 10 points
  8. King: 4 points
  9. Queen: 3 points
  10. Jack: 2 points
  11. Nine, Eight, Seven: 0 points

The goal is to collect as few points as possible.

Special Rules & Tips

  • No Trump Suit: There are no trump suits in Gemsch, which makes it more challenging and unpredictable, as you can't secure tricks with trump cards.

  • Strategic Card Play: Since the goal is to avoid points, try to refrain from winning tricks with high-point cards like Aces or Tens.

  • Passing: If a player decides they might win, they can effectively 'pass,' meaning they don’t avoid winning tricks with points. This can be a tactical move to let opponents take more points.

  • Staying Black: In some variants, this can be a penalty or a loss if a player wins no tricks.

End of the Game and Winning

The game ends when all games are played. The winner is the player with the fewest points after all rounds.

Gemsch is an engaging game that requires tactical skill and is suitable for both new and experienced Schafkopf players. It requires attention and strategic play to master!
