Objective of the Game
Catan – The Dice Game is a dice game where players try to reach the most victory points within 15 rounds by building cities, roads, and knights. It is a simplified version of the famous game "The Settlers of Catan."
Game Material
- 6 dice featuring the Catan resources (wood, brick, grain, ore, wool, and gold)
- A sheet of scoring paper
- A pen
Gameplay
- Setup
- Each player receives a sheet from the scoring pad.
-
Have a pen ready to note the results of each round.
-
Rounds
- The game consists of up to 15 rounds. In each round, all players take turns rolling the dice.
-
A player rolls all 6 dice and can set aside ("secure") and reroll dice up to two times to achieve the most favorable result.
-
Building
-
After rolling successfully, the player uses the resources to build on the score sheet:
- Build a road: Requires wood and brick. Roads do not earn victory points but are prerequisites for other buildings.
- Build a settlement: Requires wood, brick, grain, and wool. Each settlement scores 1 point, and up to 5 settlements can be built.
- Upgrade to a city: Requires three ore and two grain. A city replaces a settlement and gives 2 additional points, totaling 3 points.
- Deploy a knight: Requires wool, ore, and grain. Knights enable earning victory points.
- Build a development: Requires two ore and one grain. Developments also provide victory points.
-
Reroll and Use of Gold
-
Gold, serving as a "joker resource," can be used in place of any resource. For every 2 gold, players can substitute any rolled resource.
-
End of the Round
- The round ends after 15 turns, and the player with the most victory points wins the game.
Key Tips
- The game is mainly about efficient resource management and forward planning of building projects.
- Players should try to balance their construction efforts and not only pursue single project types (e.g., only roads).
