Objective
Pig is a simple dice game where players compete to be the first to reach a certain number of points, usually 100.
Materials Needed
- At least one six-sided die.
- Paper and pencil for keeping score.
Number of Players
At least 2 players. There is no strict maximum, but a smaller group is preferable for a smooth game flow.
Gameplay
-
Each player starts with 0 points.
-
Players take turns rolling a die: On your turn, you roll the die as many times as you wish.
-
Banking Points: You can choose to stop rolling and bank your points, passing the die to the next player. The points rolled are then added to your total score.
-
Risk of rolling 1: However, if you roll a 1, your turn ends immediately, and all points earned in that turn are lost. Your total score from previous turns is unaffected.
-
The first player to reach 100 or more total points wins the game.
Strategic Tips
- Risk vs. Reward: Decide wisely how many times to roll. Sometimes it's better to bank a smaller amount rather than risk losing all points for that turn by rolling a 1.
- Watch Opponents' Scores: Keep an eye on others’ scores and be ready to take more risks if an opponent is close to winning.
Variations
- Multi-Dice Pig: Use two or more dice where rolling a “1” only cancels out points from that specific die.
- Big Pig: The winner has to reach 200 points.
Pig is a fun and easy-to-learn game that can become exciting quickly, making it ideal for family or party evenings.
