Objective of the Game
"The Settlers of Catan – The Card Game" is a strategic two-player game where players expand their settlements and manage resources to be the first to reach 10 victory points.
Game Components
- Victory Point Cards
- Resource Cards: Brick, Wood, Wool, Ore, and Grain
- Development Cards: Various buildings and characters offering advantages
- Special Cards: Unique cards allowing special actions
Setup
- Each player starts with two settlements and an intervening road.
- Each player draws five resource cards.
- Other decks are separated and placed by card type.
Gameplay
The game proceeds in rounds. Each round consists of the following phases:
1. Income
- The starting player rolls a die at the beginning of the round. The die result determines which resources are produced.
- Each village/settlement is linked to a resource. All villages with the rolled number produce their respective resource.
2. Trade and Build
- Players may trade resources: with the bank (4:1 or 3:1 with port advantage).
- Players may play development cards, build roads, or new settlements by spending the appropriate resources.
3. Draw Cards
- Players draw up to five resource cards.
Special Rules
- Knights: Can block the opponent's resource production.
- Inventions: Provide bonus actions or benefits.
- Roads: Players must build roads to expand to new settlements. Road cards limit the number of potential settlements.
Strategic Tips
- Resource Management: Ensure a balanced flow of resources to avoid bottlenecks.
- Card Variety: Different development cards offer varied advantages. Plan long-term.
- Blocking: Use knights and roads strategically to obstruct or corner your opponent.
End of Game: The game ends when a player reaches 10 victory points.
