Punto Banco
Objective of the Game:
The objective of Punto Banco is to bet on the hand that comes closest to the sum of 9. There are two main bets: "Punto" (Player) and "Banco" (Bank). There is also the possibility that both hands will tie, known as "Egalité."
Basic Rules:
-
Number of Players: 6 to 14 players can participate at a table, but only two hands are dealt: Punto and Banco.
-
Card Values:
- Cards from 2 to 9: count as their face value.
- 10s and face cards (Jack, Queen, King): count as 0 points.
-
Aces: count as 1 point.
-
Betting Options:
- Punto: Bet on the player's hand.
- Banco: Bet on the bank's hand.
-
Egalité: Bet on a tie.
-
Card Distribution:
- The dealer deals the cards face down to the Punto and Banco positions.
-
Each area initially receives two cards.
-
Scoring: Add the values of the two cards. If the total is 10 or more, ignore the tens digit. Example: 8 + 7 = 15, the value is 5.
-
Third Card Rule: There are fixed rules for when a third card is drawn:
- Punto draws a third card if the total is 5 or less.
- Banco draws a third card depending on Banco's score and whether Punto has drawn a third card.
Specific Rules for Banco:
- If Banco has a total of 2 or less, Banco draws regardless of Punto's third card.
- With 3, Banco draws unless Punto's third card is 8.
- With 4, Banco draws if Punto's third card is between 2 and 7.
- With 5, Banco draws if Punto's third card is between 4 and 7.
-
With 6, Banco draws if Punto's third card is 6 or 7.
-
Payouts:
- Punto wins: Typically pays out 1:1.
- Banco wins: Typically pays out 1:1, usually a 5% commission is taken on the win.
-
Egalité wins: Typically pays out 8:1, as it is less common.
-
Strategic Notes:
- Betting on Banco: Statistically, Banco wins slightly more often due to the rules for the third card.
- Bet Size: Smaller bets to reduce risk and maximize chances for profit.
- Avoid frequent Egalité bets: They offer high payout rates but are risky.
Special Feature: - The decision of drawing cards is predetermined by the rules, minimizing the influence of player strategy on drawing.
This game combines luck with simple structured rules, making it one of the most accessible casino card games.
