Objective of the Game "Events on Catan"
Events on Catan is an expansion for the base game "The Settlers of Catan," adding extra dynamics and challenges through event cards. The goal of the game is still to be the first player to reach 10 victory points by building settlements, cities, roads, and achieving specific development objectives.
Setup
- The Settlers of Catan base game is required.
- The event cards are prepared in addition to the base game setup.
- Shuffle the event cards thoroughly and place them as a face-down deck.
Game Flow
The game flow remains largely the same as in the standard game. However, instead of rolling dice on each player's turn, an event card is revealed. The main difference is that the event cards can have various consequences that influence the game.
- Draw Event Card: Instead of rolling the dice, the active player draws a card from the event deck.
- Execute Event: The card describes an event that must be executed immediately. This could include resource allocation, a robber event, or a trading event.
- Building and Trading Phase: Following the event, proceed with the building and trading phase, which remains unchanged. Players can engage in negotiated and directed trades.
- Development: The player can build roads, settlements, and cities or purchase development cards if they have sufficient resources.
Special Features of the Event Cards
- Resource Rich Harvest: Additional resources are distributed.
- Adverse Weather Conditions: Construction of roads or harvesting can be delayed.
- Robber Attack: The robber is moved and can block specific resources.
- Trade Boom: Players receive bonuses for trading or discounts.
Strategic Considerations
- Flexibility: Events are random, so it's important to react flexibly to sudden changes.
- Reserves: Players should always have a reserve of tokens and resources to quickly react to sudden building or trading opportunities.
- Event Condition: Some can influence the strategic plan, so it is advisable to keep an eye on possible future cards.
Events on Catan increases the unpredictability and strategic depth of the classic game, requiring both tactical adaptation and long-term planning.
