Barragoon

Objective

The objective of Barragoon is to capture all opposing pieces or block them entirely, rendering the opponent unable to make any legal moves. The player who either captures all of the opponent's pieces or immobilizes them wins the game.

Components

  • A square game board with 49 squares (7x7)
  • Multiple BARRAGOON layers, which serve as move-blocking barriers
  • Two sets of playing pieces (Black and White)
  • Rule book
  • Six-sided dice to represent the movement directions of the BARRAGOON

Setup

  1. Each player receives six playing pieces of their chosen color.
  2. The pieces are placed on the player's starting row.
  3. BARRAGOONS are placed in the initial setup on the board, ensuring an equal strategic position for both players at the start.

Game Play

  • Turn: Players take turns moving their pieces one square in any orthogonal direction (up, down, left, right).
  • A BARRAGOON cannot be crossed or entered.
  • Capturing: You can capture an opponent's piece by moving onto the square occupied by the opponent’s piece and removing it from the board.
  • Placing BARRAGOON: When you capture an opponent's piece, you can place a BARRAGOON on the board to restrict their movement options.

Special Rules

  • Rotating BARRAGOON: When moving a piece adjacent to a BARRAGOON, you can rotate the BARRAGOON to a different orientation (90, 180, or 270 degrees). This tactic can help in blocking enemy pieces or preparing for future captures.
  • Strategic use of these rotations can greatly influence the outcome by either blocking your own pieces tactically or opening paths.

Strategic Tips

  • Position your pieces to maximize movement options and control significant board areas.
  • Use the BARRAGOON effectively to limit the opponent’s movement. Think several moves ahead to outmaneuver your opponent.
  • Rotate the BARRAGOON only when it complements your strategy, as unnecessary rotations can compromise your position.

Game End

The game ends when a player has no remaining pieces or cannot make a legal move. The player with at least one piece remaining who can prevent further moves by the opponent wins the game.

Barragoon is a highly tactical and strategic game, demanding foresight and adaptability in your playing style.
