Pachisi, Parchisi - Board Game

Strategy, Family Game

group 2 - 4 Deutsch

Objective of the Game

The objective of Chaupar is to move all four of a player’s pieces around the board and back to the home area. The first player to achieve this wins the game.

Components

  • A Chaupar board in the shape of a cross.
  • 16 game pieces, four for each player in different colors.
  • 6 or 8 two-sided elongated dice (often seashells)
  • Optional markers for scoring.

Gameplay

  1. Setup: Each player places their four pieces in their start area, called the "Home Area."

  2. Determine Starting Player: Players take turns rolling the dice. The player who rolls the highest number starts the game. In the event of a tie, those players roll again.

  3. Player's Turn: On each turn, a player rolls the dice and moves their piece(s) according to the numbers rolled.

  4. A player can bring a piece out from the "Home Area" when a specific number is rolled (often 6 or 12, depending on the version and number of dice used).
  5. The player moves a piece the number of spaces indicated by the roll.

  6. Capturing Pieces:

  7. Landing on a space occupied by an opponent's piece captures that piece and sends it back to their "Home Area."
  8. Certain marked spaces are safe zones where pieces cannot be captured.

  9. Strategic Points:

  10. Players should evaluate when to move pieces onto safe spaces or avoid certain blocks.
  11. Blocking opponents’ pieces can also be a strategic move.

  12. Winning the Game:

  13. Pieces must be moved back into the "Home Area" with an exact roll matching the remaining spaces. The first player to get all their pieces home wins.

Special Rules and Tips:

  • Combined Movement: Players should try to move multiple pieces whenever possible to adapt to opponent moves.
  • Players can strategically choose which piece to move based on their own and opponents' positions for optimal gameplay.
