Objective of the Game
In "Kings & Things," the objective is to control more territories than your opponents and expand your empire. The first player to reach a certain number of victory points wins the game.
Game Components
- Game Board: The board features a fantasy landscape divided into hex tiles.
- Units and Buildings: A variety of unit tokens and buildings to place on the board.
- Cards: Contain "Things" - powerful creatures and artifacts.
- Markers: For player statistics and resources.
Setup
- Each player selects a color and receives corresponding markers.
- The board is shuffled, and hex tiles are laid face down.
- Each player places their king in a starting territory.
Game Flow
The game is played in rounds, each consisting of several phases. Each round is divided into the following phases:
1. Action Phase
- Deploy Units: Players can purchase and deploy new units.
- Draw Cards: Each player draws a certain number of "Things" cards, providing advantages or special abilities.
2. Movement Phase
- Movement: Players can move their units on the board. Movement range may be affected by terrain.
- Explore: When entering a new, face-down territory, players flip the tile, and any challenges or bonuses take effect immediately.
3. Combat Phase
- Attack: If opposing units are on the same tile, conflict occurs. Resolved using dice rolls and special abilities from "Things" cards.
- Defense: Defending players have home advantages and may deploy additional units or building defenses.
4. Supply Phase
- Resources: Players collect resources from controlled territories.
- Victory Points: Players earn points for newly conquered territories and special tasks.
Special Rules
- Terrain and Special Tiles: Certain terrain types offer special advantages or require additional resources.
- "Things" Cards: Can be played at any time for surprise elements in gameplay.
Strategies for Winning
- Balanced Army: Combine different units with various abilities for maximal effectiveness.
- Card Management: Strategically choose when to play "Things" cards for the element of surprise.
