Objective
Dorfromantik: The Board Game is a cooperative tile-laying game where players work together to build a beautiful landscape including rivers, forests, houses, and railways. The objective of the game is to place tiles skillfully to collect as many points as possible and exceed the high score on the score tableau.
Setup
- Each player receives a player board.
- The landscape deck is shuffled and placed face-down.
- The score tableau is placed on the side, showing the target points for the current section.
- The task tiles are set aside to be introduced during the game.
- The player who has recently seen a beautiful landscape begins.
Gameplay
The game proceeds over several rounds, hereafter referred to as turns. A player performs the following steps in their turn:
- Draw a tile: Draw the top tile from the landscape deck and reveal it.
- Place the tile: The drawn tile must be placed on the playing field, adjacent to an already placed tile.
- Rivers, roads, and railways must connect appropriately with a corresponding element of a neighboring tile.
- Forests, fields, and villages can be connected at will, as long as the mechanical connection rules are followed.
- Scoring: After placing, check if any objectives have been fulfilled.
- Fulfill objectives: When tiles are placed such that a landscape's task is completed, points are scored. This could arise from continuous roads, long rivers, long railways, or large forests and villages.
- Points are noted on the score tableau once a task is completed.
- End the turn: The next player takes their turn.
Strategic Tips
- Long-term Planning: Players should plan the next round with a view for future tiles, preparing for difficult tiles to connect.
- Team Coordination: As a cooperative game, it's important not only to plan for oneself but for the entire team and find solutions together.
- Focus on Tasks: Prioritize completing tasks to quickly gather points rather than expanding landscapes aimlessly.
- Avoid Blockages: Watch out so railways or roads do not end in dead ends, complicating further landscape progression.
End of Game
The game ends when all tiles have been placed. Points are tallied for all completed tasks, and the team compares the obtained points with the goal on the score tableau.
Special Features
Dorfromantik: The Board Game is inspired by the PC game of the same name, promoting a relaxed and strategic approach to game mechanics. The special charm of the game comes from the changing tasks and strategic coordination among players.
