group 2 - 6 Deutsch

Objective of the Game

Hoggenheimer is an economic game where the aim is to accumulate the greatest net worth by skilfully buying and selling real estate, stocks, and commodities. Players must think economically and act strategically to have the most money at the end.

Components

  • Game board featuring a "market" and separate areas for real estate, stocks, and commodities
  • Play money in various denominations
  • Various cards (real estate, stocks, commodities)
  • Dice
  • Player tokens

Setup

  1. Place the game board in the center of the table.
  2. Each player chooses a token and places it on the starting square of the board.
  3. Each player receives a fixed amount of starting capital (e.g., 10,000 units of currency).
  4. The cards for real estate, stocks, and commodities are shuffled and placed face down on their respective areas on the board.
  5. Determine a starting player.

Gameplay

The game is played in rounds. Each round consists of several phases, which occur in the following order:

1. Action Phase

  • Roll the dice: The player rolls two dice and moves their token forward that many spaces on the board.
  • Perform an action: Depending on which space the player lands on, they may:
  • Buy or sell real estate/stocks/commodities: The player can decide to purchase the card they landed on or sell existing cards in their possession.
  • Pay expenses: On certain spaces, the player must pay a fee.

2. Event Phase

  • Draw an event card: The player draws an event card and performs the action described. This could be an economic downturn or an unexpected gain affecting the player's assets.

3. Market Adjustment

  • The market is adjusted with an additional dice roll to change the value of real estate, stocks, and commodities. Corresponding price tables help determine new price values.

End of the Game

The game ends when a previously decided number of rounds have been played or if a player becomes bankrupt. The player with the highest net worth (cash plus the value of real estate, stocks, and commodities) wins the game.

Strategic Tips

  • Diversify: Spread your wealth across real estate, stocks, and commodities to minimize risk.
  • Monitor the Market: Pay attention to market developments and adjust your investments accordingly.
  • Liquidity: Always try to have enough cash available to cover unexpected expenses or seize spontaneous investment opportunities.

Since Hoggenheimer is a strategic economic game, planning and adapting to market conditions are essential for success. Enjoy playing!
