Objective of the Game
Space Alert is a cooperative real-time board game where players act as crew members of a spaceship navigating through a dangerous sector. The objective is to survive the complete scenario by defending the ship against external threats.
Game Components
The game includes: - A game board depicting the spaceship. - Cards for action planning. - CDs or an app to generate real-time threats. - Figures and markers representing crew members and threats.
Setup
- Setting Up the Ship: Place the game board in the center. Players' figures start in the central mess hall (middle of the ship).
- Prepare Action Cards: Each player receives a set of action cards. These include movements on the ship and actions like firing weapons or activating special functions.
- Ship and Threat Cards: Shuffle the threat cards and have them ready.
- Start the CD or App: This will play the scenario, including real-time threats.
Gameplay
- Real-Time Phase
- The game is played in two phases: real-time phase and evaluation phase.
- During the real-time phase, players listen to instructions from the CD/App and simultaneously plan their actions using their cards to respond to emerging threats.
-
The real-time phase lasts about 10 minutes where players continuously plan actions. Communication is key.
-
Planning Actions
- Players can move around the ship, fire weapons, manage energy, and use special abilities.
-
Actions are planned secretly using action cards and placed at the respective round slots of the players.
-
Coordination
- Since threats can come from outside (aliens, meteors) and inside (system failures), players must coordinate and synchronize their actions.
-
The players should continuously communicate and share their plans and observations.
-
Evaluation Phase
- After the real-time phase, planned actions are executed step-by-step in the evaluation phase, and threats are resolved.
- This phase checks if the measures taken were successful and whether the ship remains intact or suffers damage.
End Conditions
- The game ends when the mission is complete. The ship must survive.
- Players win if the ship successfully completes the mission and the return to base occurs.
- If the ship is destroyed, the players lose.
Strategic Tips
- Set Priorities: Identify major threats and prioritize since not all threats can be handled at once.
- Role Distribution: Assign tasks within the team for more effective actions.
- Communication: Continuous coordination is essential for success.
Space Alert requires quick thinking, planning, and excellent teamwork to successfully complete the mission.
