Objective
The objective of Craps is to correctly bet on the outcome of the roll of two dice. The game is played in rounds, and one player is the "shooter" who rolls the dice.
Setup
- Two six-sided dice are needed.
- Players place their bets on the table, which is divided into various betting areas.
Gameplay
The game begins with a "Come-Out Roll". The player rolling the dice is known as the shooter, and bets are placed based on the roll’s outcome.
- Come-Out Roll:
- If the total is 7 or 11, Pass Line Bets win and the shooter rolls again.
- If the total is 2, 3, or 12, Pass Line Bets lose (called "Craps") and the shooter makes another Come-Out Roll.
-
Any other number (4, 5, 6, 8, 9, 10) establishes a Point. The shooter aims to roll this number again before rolling a 7.
-
Point Phase:
- If the Point is rolled again, Pass Line Bets win and the shooter rolls again with a new Come-Out Roll.
- If a 7 is rolled before the Point is re-rolled (termed as "Seven-Out"), Pass Line Bets lose, and the next player clockwise becomes the shooter.
Betting
Players can place a variety of bets during the game: - Pass Line Bet: A bet that the shooter wins (either a Come-Out Roll of 7 or 11, or the Point is re-rolled before a 7). - Don’t Pass Bet: The opposite of the Pass Line, betting that the shooter loses. - Come Bet: Functions similarly to Pass Line Bets but placed after the Come-Out Roll. - Don’t Come Bet: Similar to Don’t Pass Bets, placed after the Come-Out Roll. - Odds Bet: An additional bet on the original Pass Line or Don’t Pass Bet, paid at true odds when the original bet wins.
Additional Bets
Numerous single or multi-roll bets are available, such as Place Bets, Field Bets, or Proposition Bets, each with different payout structures and odds.
Winning
Winnings depend on the placed bets, and odds may vary from casino to casino. While Pass Line and Don’t Pass bets pay out at a simple 1:1 ratio, more complex bets offer different payouts.
Strategic Highlights
- Craps can be a fast-paced game with high stakes, so it’s crucial to manage your bankroll. Correct betting and understanding probabilities can help players maximize their chances.
- Betting options like "Odds Bets" offer practically zero house edge, making them advantageous for players looking to minimize house advantage.
- Pass Line and Come Bets are generally the preferred choices for new players as they are easier to understand and offer better winning odds compared to other complex bets.
This basic understanding of Craps allows new players to quickly engage in the game and make informed betting decisions.
