Objective of the Game "Twenty-One"
The aim of "Twenty-One", also known as "Vingt-et-Un", is to get as close as possible to 21 points with your cards without exceeding that value ("busting"). You must try to achieve more points than the dealer.
Game Components
To play this game, you only need a standard deck of 52 playing cards, without the jokers.
Number of Players
This game can be played with at least two players, one of whom is always the dealer. There is no strict maximum for players, but larger groups may result in longer wait times between turns.
Card Values
- Ace: 1 or 11 points, depending on your choice for creating the best hand.
- Cards 2 to 10: Correspond to their face values.
- Face cards (Jack, Queen, King): Each are worth 10 points.
How to Play
- Determine the Dealer: A player is chosen as the dealer at the start of the game. This role can rotate after each round.
- Betting: Before dealing the cards, all players place a set bet amount.
- Deal the Cards:
- The dealer deals two cards to each player, including themselves. The players' cards are face up, while the dealer has one card face up and one card face down.
- Player's Turn:
- Starting from the dealer's left, each player decides if they want another card ("Hit") or to keep their current hand ("Stand"). This continues until all players are finished or have "busted".
- "Busting" occurs when a player's card total exceeds 21, causing an automatic loss.
- Dealer's Turn:
- After all players have completed their turns, the dealer reveals their face-down card. The dealer must draw cards until they reach at least 17 points.
- Determine the Winner:
- If the dealer "busts," all remaining players win the round.
- If the dealer does not bust, the player closer to 21 than the dealer wins without exceeding 21.
- Payouts: Players who beat the dealer win double their bet amount.
Strategic Tips
- Know Your Limits: Particularly when your cards total between 12 and 16, hitting can be riskier.
- Consider Your Position: Players who go first have less information about the dealer's hand.
- Card Counting: In small, informal games, keeping track of cards can provide an advantage.
Enjoy playing "Twenty-One"! Note that rules might slightly vary depending on regional adaptations.
