Objective of the Game
In Concordia, players take on the roles of Roman colonists who aim to expand their trade empire across the entire Roman Empire. The goal of the game is to earn the most prestige by founding colonies, trading goods, and establishing diplomatic relations.
Game Components
- Game Board: Displays a map of the Roman Empire with provinces and cities.
- Trade Cards: Determine the actions players can perform.
- Resource Tokens: Include goods such as grain, wine, or tools.
- Colonist Figures: Used to establish new cities.
- Various Markers: To track scores and other game states.
Setup
- Set Up the Game Board: Place the game board in the center of the table.
- Distribute Resources: Place the resource tokens in the corresponding cities.
- Deal Starting Cards: Each player receives an identical set of trade cards.
- Start Player Marker and Colonists: The starting player receives the appropriate marker, and all players place their colonist figures in Rome.
- Distribute Initial Resources: Each player receives a starting amount of sesterces (money) and resources.
Gameplay
Concordia is played in turns until one of the game-ending conditions occurs. Each round consists of the following phases:
- Action Phase: Players take turns performing one action by playing one of their trade cards. Possible actions include:
- Build: Found cities using available resources.
- Merchant: Buy or sell resources.
- Diplomat: Copy another player's action.
- Senator: Acquire new trade cards.
- Tribune: Retrieve all played cards back into hand.
- End of Round: After all players have taken their action, a new round begins.
End of the Game
The game ends when a player has built their last colony or all trade cards have been purchased. After that, final scoring occurs, where points are awarded for: - Colonies: Cities in which a player is represented. - Trade Cards: These cards multiply achievements in different aspects like trade power or colonization success. - Resource Production: Goods collected and produced throughout the game.
