Objective of the Game
In "Bug Party", the goal is to move your bugs so that they swap masks with each other and cross the moat as quickly as possible to reach the castle's party. The winner is the player whose bug reaches the ball in the castle first.
Game Components
- 1 Game Board featuring a circular castle surrounded by a moat
- 6 Colorful Bugs with attachable masks
- 1 Die with symbols instead of numbers
- 1 Magnetic Ring for the edge of the moat
Setup
- Each player selects a bug of a specific color. All bugs start before the castle on the designated start spaces.
- Masks are assigned to bugs matching their colors.
- The magnetic ring is placed on the table so it represents the moat around the castle.
Gameplay
The game is played in rounds, with each player taking a turn per round.
- Roll the Die: The player rolls the symbol die. This determines which action the player can perform:
- Symbol: Move: The player can move their bug forward one space.
- Symbol: Mask Swap: The player can exchange their bug's mask with any other mask currently on the field.
-
Symbol: Standstill: The turn is skipped, and the next player goes.
-
Reaching the Objective: The player must try to maneuver their bug across the moat by using mask abilities and the actions they can perform based on the die outcome.
-
Round End: Once all players have had their turn, the next round begins unless a bug has reached the castle's center.
Special Rules
- Matching Masks: Bugs can only cross the moat successfully if their mask matches the bug's color.
- Stranded Bugs: If a bug cannot move due to a mismatched mask situation, it remains still until a suitable swap opportunity occurs.
Strategy Tips
- Targeted Swapping: Pay close attention to the positions of other bugs and swap strategically to maximize your chances of being the first to sort the colors.
- Blocking Others: Use the mask swap action also to hinder other bugs by placing mismatched masks on them.
The game ends when the first bug reaches the castle, and that player wins.
