Objective
In Mysterium, one player takes on the role of a ghost, while the other players act as mediums. The objective of the mediums is to deduce the identity of a murder suspect, the location, and the murder weapon, guided by clues from the ghost. The ghost provides the players with visions in the form of illustrated cards to guide them through the investigation process. The game is won cooperatively if all mediums successfully deduce their suspect, location, and weapon within a set number of rounds.
Setup
- Set up the game board: Place the central board in the middle of the table.
- Assign roles: One player becomes the ghost and receives the screen and corresponding cards.
- Card Selection: Prepare the number of suspect, location, and weapon cards according to the number of players.
- Visions: The ghost is dealt a hand of illustrated vision cards to give clues.
- Markers and Boards: Players receive clairvoyance markers and a progression board for guessing scores.
Gameplay
- Vision Phase: In each round, the ghost hands out a vision card or multiple cards of different colors to each medium, pointing to a suspect, location, or weapon.
- Interpretation: The mediums discuss and analyze these visions and place their markers according to their assumptions about the murder elements on the board.
- Revelation: After all guesses, the ghost reveals whether each medium’s guess was correct. If correct, the medium advances to the next stage of deduction (suspect, location, weapon).
- Clairvoyance: Mediums can also guess if others' proposals are correct to earn additional clairvoyance points.
- Progression continues over several rounds, with the group collaboratively working to gather clues accurately.
Strategic Tips
- Attention and Analysis: Mediums should closely analyze card details and use discussions to collaboratively find associations.
- Teamwork: Coordinated efforts are crucial to collectively approach the interpretations of the visions.
- Patience and Flexibility: Given the limited communication, mediums must be open to flexible thinking and adjusting interpretations.
Special Rules
- Adjustable Difficulty: Depending on the group's preference, the number of rounds or elements each player guesses can be adjusted.
- Expansions are available to increase the variability and add new cards to the game.
