Kahuna

Objective: In Kahuna, two players compete to control a group of twelve islands on a game board. The game is played over three rounds, where players strategically build bridges between the islands to have the most "Kahuna" islands, i.e., islands fully connected by their bridges, by the end.

Setup

  1. Set Up the Board: The board displays twelve islands connected by potential bridge placements.
  2. Shuffle the Cards: There are 24 cards, each depicting one of the islands. These are shuffled, and each player is dealt three cards. The remaining cards form a draw pile, and three cards are placed face up next to it.
  3. Prepare Bridge Pieces: Each player takes bridge pieces in their color; either black or white.

Gameplay

The game is played in alternating turns. A turn consists of the following phases:

  1. Play a Card: The player can play one or more island cards from their hand to build bridges on the board. For each card, the player can construct a bridge between the depicted island and a connected neighboring island.

  2. Draw a Card: At the end of their turn, the player draws either one of the three open cards or the top card from the draw pile.

Special Features and Strategies

  • Kahuna Control: If a player controls more than half of the connections to an island, they can remove all opponent's bridges to this island from the board. This island is then considered a Kahuna island under this player's control.

  • Scoring: At the end of each round, scoring occurs:

  • After the first round, players get one point for each Kahuna island they control.
  • After the second round, players receive two points for each controlled island.
  • After the third round, the player with the highest score wins.

  • Planning and Tactics: Since there are only two players, planning each move concerning capturing and defending strategically important islands is crucial. The player must always target control over critical connections to gain an advantage, especially in the final round.

  • Card Draw Choice: The decision of which card to draw is critical as it influences flexibility in future rounds.

End of the Game

The game ends after the third round with the final scoring. The player with the most points is declared the Kahuna Master.

Enjoy Kahuna, a strategic duel for two!
