Primordial Soup

Objective

The objective of Primordial Soup is to collect as many evolution points as possible by strategically reproducing and feeding your amoebas while outlasting and growing stronger than the amoebas of other players.

Setup

  • Game Board: The board represents the primordial ocean soup, divided into a grid on which the amoebas move.
  • Amoebas: Each player has a set of amoebas in their chosen color.
  • Food Chips: These chips are scattered across the board and represent the nutrients the amoebas need to consume.
  • Evolution Cards: These cards represent genetic mutations that your amoebas can develop over the course of the game to gain various advantages.
  • Each player starts with a specific number of DNA points (usually 12), which are used during the various phases of the game.

Gameplay

A round consists of several phases:

  1. Movement:
  2. Each of your amoebas can move up to 3 spaces in any direction.
  3. Note: Amoebas require oxygen for movement, represented by DNA points.

  4. Feeding:

  5. Amoebas feed on the food chips on the square they occupy.
  6. Each amoeba can eat one food chip per round.

  7. Evolution:

  8. With the DNA points collected, players can purchase new evolution cards.
  9. These cards grant specialized abilities to your amoebas, such as faster movement, armor, or the ability to attack other amoebas or evade them.

  10. Reproduction:

  11. Once an amoeba has consumed enough food, it can reproduce, bringing new amoebas onto the board.

  12. Death and Survival:

  13. Amoebas that fail to consume enough food during a round will die at the end of the round.
  14. Players may then draw additional DNA points for new amoebas, allowing them to play more effectively.

Winning the Game

The game ends when a player reaches a predetermined number of evolution points. The player with the most points at that time wins.

Strategic Tips

  • Resource Management: Plan how you spend your DNA points carefully; a good mix of mobility, defense, and food gathering is crucial.
  • Positioning: Try to position your amoebas to reach food efficiently each round while avoiding being eaten.
  • Effective Evolution: Invest in evolutions that support your current strategy and provide future advantages.
