Objective of the Game
Parchís is a classic board game where the objective is to move all of your pieces from the starting area around the board and into the goal zone before your opponents do.
Game Setup
The board is square-shaped with a cross-layout and four colored bases located at the corners. Each base has paths leading to the center of the board. Each player has four pieces of one color (Red, Yellow, Blue, or Green).
Rules of Play
- Number of Players: Parchís can be played by 2 to 4 players.
- Starting the Game: Each player rolls a die, and the one with the highest number starts the game. The game continues in a clockwise direction.
- Moving Pieces:
- A player must roll a 6 to move a piece from the base onto the board.
- If no 6 is rolled, the pieces remain in the base.
- Whenever a 6 is rolled, the player can either bring a piece into play or move one already on the board six spaces forward. The player gets an additional roll.
- Normal Moves: Players move their pieces according to the number rolled on the die.
- Capturing: Landing on a space occupied by an opponent's piece sends that piece back to its base.
- Blockades: Forming a blockade with two of your own pieces on one space prevents any other pieces from passing.
- Entering the Home Stretch:
- To reach the home area, a piece must roll the exact number needed to get there.
- Winning: The first player to get all their pieces to the home area wins.
Strategies
- Building Blockades: An effective strategy could be to create blockades to hinder opponents and plan movement strategically.
- Risk Management: Deciding when to bring a piece into play or protect an already moved piece is crucial for smart play.
Game Variations
Some versions of the game include additional rules such as special starting squares or modified blockade rules to increase the challenge.
