Objective of the Game
In Halali!, players engage in an exciting woodland hunt as either huntsmen or foresters. The game consists of two rounds, and each side attempts to strategically reveal and move tiles to capture the most game and earn points.
Game Components
- 48 tiles featuring woodland creatures, huntsmen, foresters, trees, and rivers.
- A board that represents the forest terrain.
Setup
At the beginning, all tiles are mixed and placed face-down randomly on the board. Each player chooses a side: huntsmen or foresters. The tiles are reshuffled and redistributed for each new game start.
Gameplay
Each side has specific tiles: - Huntsmen/Forester Tiles: Guns, huntsmen, foresters. - Forest Animals: Foxes, bears, ducks, pheasants. - Neutral Elements: Trees and rivers, which block movement.
Turns
Players take turns. On each turn, a player can either reveal a tile or move a revealed tile.
- Reveal: The player selects a face-down tile and flips it over. This helps gather strategic information and plan potential moves.
- Move: The player may move their own or a neutral tile orthogonally (not diagonally). Huntsmen can capture animals by moving onto the same tile or if they are in the line of sight.
- Huntsmen: Can shoot animals in their line of sight, that is straight along rows or columns, until hitting a tree or the edge of the board.
- Foresters: Capture foxes and can scare bears off the board.
Scoring
Each animal is worth a set number of points: - Bears: 10 points - Foxes: 5 points - Ducks: 2 points - Pheasants: 3 points - Opponent's Guns: 2 points
Points are tallied at the end of the round based on the captured animals or guns.
Strategies
- Revealing Tiles: Choose wisely which tiles to reveal to gain information about the position of valuable animals.
- Movement Tactics: Keep your huntsmen in good positions to target potential game, but ensure they are not captured in return.
- Resource Preservation: Protect your weapons and figures from being captured by your opponent.
End of the Game
The game ends when all the huntsmen/forester tiles cannot perform any valid actions or all animals are captured. The player with the most points wins.
