Objective
Vampire: The Eternal Struggle (VTES) is a multiplayer strategic card game set in the World of Darkness. The objective is to oust the majority of other players (known as "Methuselahs") from the game by reducing their pool of points to zero, ultimately being the last standing or the most dominant Methuselah.
Setup
- Each player needs a custom deck consisting of 77 to 90 cards.
- There are two main types of cards: Crypt Cards and Library Cards.
- Crypt Cards represent the vampires a player controls.
- Library Cards provide a variety of effects, equipments, and support.
- Players start with a set number of pool points (usually 30) and draw an opening hand of seven library cards.
Gameplay
- Unlock: All players "unlock" and ready their vampires.
- Minion Phase: Players use their vampires to perform actions such as hunt, bleed, or other specials:
- Hunt: To gain blood.
- Bleed: Attempt to reduce the pool of your "prey" (the player to your left).
- Political Actions: Conduct political maneuvers for various advantages.
- Blocking: Actions may be "blocked" by other players using their vampires as defenders.
- Combat: If a block occurs or a challenge is engaged, combat ensues. This involves the use of combat cards to outmaneuver or overpower the opponent.
- Influence Phase: Players use their pool points to influence and bring new vampires from their crypt into play.
- Discard Phase: Excess cards must be discarded to bring the hand size back to seven library cards.
Winning Conditions
- Oust the Methuselah to your left ("prey") by causing them to lose all their pool points.
- The last remaining player wins, or the player with the most pool points at the game's completion.
