Objective of the Game
Carcassonne – Mayflower, also known as Carcassonne: New World, is a tile-based strategy game in which players collaboratively build a landscape and earn points for different constructions. The objective is to score the most points by skillfully placing landscape tiles and followers.
Game Components
- Land tiles: These depict features such as roads, cities, fields, and abbeys. Some tiles also have a new rail track that ties into the "New World" theme.
- Followers: Several colored figures used by players to claim features.
- Scoring board: To keep track of the players' scores.
- Starting tile: The initial starting point of the landscape.
- Progress marker: This moves across the board to symbolize the advancing settlement.
Game Flow
- Setup:
- Place the starting tile in the center.
- Shuffle the remaining tiles and stack them face down.
-
Each player takes all their color's followers.
-
Turn Sequence:
- A player draws a tile and places it adjacent to an already placed tile, ensuring that all terrain features line up (road to road, city to city, etc.).
- After placement, the player may place a follower on the newly placed tile to claim a feature like a road, city, abbey, or field.
-
Completed constructions (such as a city or road that is bounded on both sides) are scored, and the player with the most followers scores points.
-
Progress Marker:
- As the game progresses, the progress marker moves along the rail track to delineate the settlement’s impact area. Once it reaches a follower, that follower is scored and removed.
Endgame
The game ends once all tiles are placed. Final scoring is done for unfinished constructions, and the player with the most points wins.
Strategic Tips
- Manage Followers: Always keep a few followers available. Consider when to get them back from completed features versus holding onto strategic control.
- Exploration and Claiming: Balancing short-term scoring and long-term control of areas is critical.
- Tile Placement: Be mindful of tile placement to maximize scoring with minimal effort.
With these tips and rules, you're ready to explore the New World!
