Objective

7 Wonders is a strategic card game where players are leaders of ancient cities aiming to construct one of the seven great wonders. The game spans three ages, during which players gather resources, construct buildings, and develop their military to earn victory points. The player with the most victory points at the end of the game wins.

Components

  • 49 cards per age
  • 7 Wonder boards
  • Conflict and coin tokens
  • Player aids and scorepads

Gameplay Overview

Setup

  1. Each player receives a Wonder board. This shows the resources produced by the city and the requirements for building the Wonder stages.
  2. The cards for the three ages are shuffled separately. Each player receives a starting hand for each age.
  3. Determine the starting player randomly.

Each Age

  1. Drafting Cards: Players simultaneously choose a card from their hand and pass the remaining cards to the next player. Card rotation is left in the first and third age, and right in the second age.
  2. Actions:
  3. Build: Play a card from hand onto the table, making a structure provided the player has the necessary resources.
  4. Construct a Wonder stage: Use a card to build one stage of the Wonder by meeting its resource requirement.
  5. Discard a card: Discard a card to gain 3 coins.
  6. Pass Remaining Cards: The unchosen cards are passed to the next player.

Military Conflicts

At the end of each age, players enter military conflicts with neighboring players. Comparing military strength can result in victory, defeat, or neutrality, leading to positive or negative conflict tokens.

End of Age

After six rounds, the age ends. Players receive a new set of cards from the next age.

Game End & Scoring

After the third age, the game ends, and players proceed to scoring. Players score points for: - Buildings of different types (e.g., blue for civil buildings, green for scientific achievements) - Military conflict outcome - Completed Wonder stages - Coins (every 3 coins equal 1 victory point) - Possible bonus points from certain cards

The player with the most victory points wins.

Strategy Tips

  • Adaptability: As cards cycle between players, being flexible with strategy based on available options is vital.
  • Resource Management: Effective construction of resource-producing structures is crucial for playing higher-value cards.
  • Military Balance: Stay aware of neighbors' military power and adjust your own accordingly.
  • Victory Point Strategy: Decide whether to diversify your sources of points or to specialize in certain areas.
