Objective:
The goal of Phase 10 is to be the first player to complete ten phases. Each phase consists of a combination of cards that changes throughout the game.
Components:
A Phase 10 deck contains 110 cards: two sets numbered 1-12 in four colors, eight Wild cards, and four Skip cards.
Setup:
- Shuffle the deck and deal ten cards to each player.
- Place the remaining deck face down as the draw pile. Flip the top card to start the discard pile.
Gameplay:
The game proceeds in rounds. In each round, players attempt to complete a phase.
- Beginning of Turn: Players start their turn by drawing a card either from the draw or discard pile.
- Laying Down Phase: Players lay down their phase when they have the required cards.
Phases include:- Two sets of three
- One run of seven
- One run of eight
- One run of nine
- Two sets of four
- One set of five and one set of two
- One set of five and one set of three
- Four of one color
- Seven cards of one color
- A set of five of one color
- End of Turn: Players end their turn by discarding a card.
- End of Round: A round ends when a player discards all their cards.
- Scoring: Remaining cards in hand are scored as penalty points:
- Cards 1-9: 5 points each
- Cards 10-12: 10 points each
- Wild cards: 25 points each
- Skip cards: 15 points each
Special Rules:
- Wild Cards can substitute any card in a phase.
- Skip Cards force the next player to lose their turn.
Winning the Game:
The game ends when a player completes all ten phases. If multiple players complete the tenth phase in the same round, the player with the fewest points wins.
Strategic Considerations:
- Avoid holding onto high cards as they count against you in points.
- Use Wild cards wisely; saving them for a critical phase can be crucial.
- Monitor other players' cards and phases to anticipate their needs and block them if possible.
