Objective of the Game
Mensch ärgere Dich nicht (literally, "Don't Get Angry, Dude") is a classic board game where the objective is to move all your pieces from the starting area to the home row before your opponents do.
Game Setup
- Place the board in the center of the table.
- Each player chooses a color and takes four pieces of that color.
- These pieces are placed in the corresponding starting area, usually a circle matching the piece color.
- A dice is needed for the game.
Gameplay
- Beginning the Game:
-
Players take turns rolling the dice to start. The highest roller starts. In case of a tie, roll again.
-
Player's Turn:
- Players roll the dice once per turn.
-
To move a piece from the starting area onto the board, a player must roll a six. Rolling a six also grants an extra roll.
-
Moving Pieces:
- Move the number of spaces indicated by the dice in a clockwise direction.
- If a player's piece lands on a space occupied by another player's piece, the latter is sent back to its respective starting area.
-
Rolling another six allows the player to continue with another move.
-
Moving into the Home Row:
- Players navigate pieces around the board track until reaching their home row.
-
The player must roll the exact number needed to move a piece into the home row.
-
Winning the Game:
- The winner is the first player to successfully move all four pieces into their home row.
Special Considerations and Strategic Tips
- Blockades: Two pieces of the same player on one space create a blockade that no other player's piece can pass.
- Risk vs. Caution: Balancing between protecting your own pieces and attacking opponent pieces is critical. Playing cautiously might be useful, but aggressive tactics can frustrate opponents.
- Extra Moves: Benefit from rolling a six as often as possible to maximize movement opportunities.
- Avoid clustering your pieces to prevent multiple being sent back to the start at once.
