Objective of the Game

Catan – The Duel Card Game is a strategy and trading game designed for two players. The objective is to be the first to reach a set number of victory points. Victory points are earned by building settlements, cities, and playing certain cards that award special points.

Components

• 2 sets of different terrain cards (wood, clay, wheat, ore, wool)
• Building and development cards that can be constructed or acquired
• Two decks of cards, one per player
• Resource markers or cards to manage resources

Setup

1. Each player takes their set of terrain cards and lays them out in a cross shape in front of them.
2. At the start, each player receives one starting resource per terrain type.
3. Shuffle the building and development cards into two separate decks placed between the players.

Gameplay

The game is played in alternating turns, with each turn consisting of several phases:

1. Resource Production

• Roll the resource die and receive the corresponding resource from your layout's terrain cards that match the symbol rolled. For example, if wood is rolled, you receive the equivalent resource from each wood terrain card in your setup.

2. Trade and Build

• Trade: You can trade resources with your opponent. The trade conditions must be negotiated between the players.
• Build: Use your resources to construct building or development cards that align with your strategy. Each card has specific building costs, which must be paid by giving up the indicated resources.

3. Execute Actions

• Take advantage of the abilities of your constructed cards. Some cards can be exchanged or have special functions that give strategic bonuses.

4. Play Special Cards

• If you hold special cards (e.g., knights or progress cards), you can use them in this phase. They offer specific advantages like additional resources or points.

Game End

The game concludes when a player reaches a predetermined number of victory points, typically 10. That player is declared the winner.
