Objective of the Game
The objective of Kartenlotterie is to collect the most points by gathering specific cards by the end of the game.
Setup
- Number of Players: 2 to 6 players
-
Materials: A standard deck of 52 playing cards (without jokers).
-
Shuffle: Thoroughly shuffle the deck of cards.
- Deal: Each player receives 5 cards. The remaining cards form a draw pile placed face down in the center of the table.
- Discard Pile: Flip the top card of the draw pile face up to start a separate discard pile.
Gameplay
Play proceeds clockwise. On each player's turn, they perform the following steps:
- Draw a Card
-
The player draws either the top card from the draw pile or the top card from the discard pile.
-
Discard a Card
- The player must discard one card from their hand onto the discard pile.
- Ideally, the discarded card should match the number or suit sequence of the previous card on the discard pile to maximize card collection opportunities.
Special Rules
-
Four of a Kind: If a player collects four cards of the same rank in their hand (e.g., four aces), they may lay them down face-up in front of them. These cards will no longer be used.
-
Sequence of Same Suit: If the discard pile has three consecutive cards of the same suit, the next player may choose to take these as a collection instead of their regular move, ending their turn without drawing or discarding a card.
-
Joker Functionality: If jokers are used in the game, they can replace any other card. They are invaluable for completing sequences or collecting high-value points.
Ending the Game and Scoring
The game ends when the draw pile is exhausted and no player can legally discard their card. Points are then tallied:
- Card Values: Number cards count as their face value, face cards count as 10 points each, and aces count as 15 points each.
- Bonus: Four of a kind in a collected series earn double points.
The player with the most points wins the game. In the case of a tie, the involved players share the victory.
