Objective of the Game
In Amun-Re, players take on the roles of Pharaohs in Ancient Egypt, aiming to expand their influence across the Nile Valley. The goal of the game is to have the most victory points at the end of the second half of the game. These points are accrued by building pyramids, gathering gold, and fulfilling various goal cards.
Game Components
- Province Cards: Represent the regions of Egypt players can control.
- Pyramid Parts: Used to build pyramids.
- Money Cards: Used for auctions and building projects.
- Offering Cards: For offerings to the god Amun-Re, which influence harvest results.
- Goal Cards: Provide additional opportunities to earn victory points.
Gameplay
Amun-Re is played over two halves, each consisting of several rounds:
1. Phase: Acquire Provinces
Each player uses their money cards to bid on territories. Outbid bids return to the player. The auction ends when all players have acquired a region.
2. Phase: Actions
Players can build farmers and pyramids in their provinces. Farmers generate income in gold, which is used for further actions. Pyramids provide victory points at the end of each half.
3. Phase: Offering to Amun-Re
Players select offering cards in secret, representing their offering to the god Amun-Re. The total offering determines the height of the Nile, influencing the harvest and thus income. A higher offering means a better harvest.
4. Phase: Income
Provinces produce income in gold based on the Nile’s height. Players collect their income to use for future rounds.
5. Phase: Card Management
Players manage their hand cards and can acquire new ones.
End of the First Half and Scoring
At the end of the first half, scoring takes place: pyramids, control over regions, and completed goals yield victory points. Afterwards, province cards are returned and redistributed.
Strategic Tips
- Balancing Farmers and Pyramids: Farmers generate crucial income, but pyramids are the key to victory points.
- Watchful Bids: Overbidding might force you to spend more gold than necessary.
- Offering Strategy: While higher offerings ensure better harvests, excessive offerings can deplete your finances.
- Long-Term Planning: Always keep the goal cards in mind and ensure that your actions contribute to long-term success.
