Objective
Cluedo is a detective board game in which players must deduce the murderer, the murder location, and the murder weapon of a crime committed in the Tudor Mansion.
Setup
- Game Board: Place the game board in the center of the table.
- Character Cards: Each player chooses a character and takes the corresponding token.
- Murder Cards: Consisting of three categories: Suspects, Locations, and Weapons. Shuffle each category separately and draw one from each without looking. Place these three cards into the secret envelope to represent the case to be solved.
- Deal the Remaining Cards: Shuffle the remaining cards (except those in the envelope) together and deal them evenly among the players.
- Detective Notepads: Each player receives a notepad listing all the possible suspects, locations, and weapons.
- Playing Pieces: Place the character tokens on their corresponding starting spaces.
Game Play
- Turns: Players take turns rolling two six-sided dice and move their character accordingly around the spaces to enter the rooms of the mansion.
- Making Suggestions: Upon entering a room, a player can make a suggestion about the murder suspect, weapon, and location. The location must be the room where their token is.
- Disproving Suggestions: The player to the left of the suggester must, if able, disprove one element of the suggestion by showing one of the included cards to the suggester, who can take notes on their notepad.
- Deduction: As players gather information, they eliminate possible cards from their suspicion list.
- Making an Accusation: Once a player believes they have solved the case, they can make an accusation. They declare the suspect, weapon, and location cards thought to be in the envelope.
Winning the Game
If the accusation is correct, that player wins the game. If incorrect, they can no longer make accusations but continue playing to disprove others.
Strategic Tips
- Observation: Be aware of what cards other players cannot show to deduce which cards might be in the envelope.
- Bluffing: Make false suggestions to confuse other players.
- Strategic Movement: Plan your movement carefully since you can make suggestions only in the room you are currently in.
