Objective of the Game
In Kraken Alert, players must collaborate to retrieve valuable treasures from an underwater chamber before the dreaded Kraken awakens and attacks them.
Components
- 1 game board featuring a treasure chamber and Kraken’s lair
- Various treasure tiles
- Player figures
- Kraken figure
- Dice
Setup
- Place the game board in the center of the table.
- Place the treasure tiles face down inside the treasure chamber.
- Each player selects a figure and places it at the starting point on the game board.
- Set the Kraken figure in the Kraken's lair at a safe distance from the player figures.
- A player is given the dice.
Gameplay
Kraken Alert is a cooperative game, and players take turns moving their figures and attempting to secure treasures:
- Player’s Turn: The player rolls the dice and moves their figure the corresponding number of spaces towards the treasure chamber.
- Retrieve Treasure: Once a player reaches the treasure chamber, they can flip a random treasure tile and add it to their collection.
- Kraken Movement: After each player’s turn, the Kraken figure moves 1 space closer to the player's figures. (If certain event spaces are landed on, roll the anchor to see if the Kraken moves extra spaces.)
- Kraken Threat: If a player is caught by the Kraken, they lose all treasures collected in that turn.
End of the Game
The game ends when: - All treasures have been retrieved, meaning the players have won. - The Kraken catches all players at once, meaning the players have lost.
Tips and Strategy
- Teamwork is crucial: As this is a cooperative game, it’s best for players to share tips and plan their moves together.
- Risk management: Avoid straying too far from the group to prevent being caught by the Kraken figure.
- Prioritize: Decide together which treasures are most valuable and retrieve them first.
