Objective
In Carcassonne: Amazonas, the aim is to score points by cleverly placing tiles and deploying followers along the Amazon River. The player with the most points at the end wins.
Game Components
- 75 landscape tiles: Each depicts different parts of the Amazon and its surroundings, such as rivers, rainforests, and villages.
- The starting tile: Begins the river path.
- 48 followers in player colors (12 per player).
- 4 boats in player colors.
- An Amazonas track: To mark progress along the river.
- A scoring pad: For recording points.
Setup
- Place the starting tile in the center of the table.
- Shuffle the remaining landscape tiles and create a face-down draw pile.
- Each player takes the followers and the boat of their color.
- Place the players’ boats at the start of the river on the starting tile.
Gameplay
The game proceeds in rounds, starting with the youngest player. Each turn consists of 3 phases:
1. Drawing and placing a landscape tile
- Draw a landscape tile and place it adjacent to already placed tiles. At least one side must match an existing tile, considering the borders of landscapes (river, rainforest, village).
2. Deploying followers
- You may place one of your followers on the tile you just placed:
- As a researcher in the rainforest
- As an inhabitant in a village
- Important: You cannot place a follower in a landscape already occupied by another follower (even your own).
3. Scoring
- Villages and Rainforests score immediately when completed:
- Villages: Points for each tile surrounding the village.
- Rainforests: Each depicted animal scores one point.
- Rivers score only at the end of the game based on positioning in the race: Your boat scores based on tiles collected.
The Amazon River
- Besides the regular turns, boats can be moved along the Amazon. Instead of deploying a follower, you may advance your boat one tile along the river.
- Extra points are available if your boat controls a river section.
End of the Game and Final Scoring
The game ends when the last landscape tile is placed. A final scoring takes place: - Unfinished villages and rainforests are scored now but with reduced points. - Boats on the river earn extra points based on their position.
The player with the most points wins.
Strategic Tips
- Planning: Place your tiles to give you the best scoring opportunities while blocking others.
- Timing: Deploy followers wisely; sometimes patience pays off.
- Balance: Control the rivers and complete villages and rainforests as soon as possible.
The game mixes strategy with luck since you never know which tile you'll draw next. Enjoy the game!
